Bel Canto Singers, 10th anniversary concert

Preparations for this milestone concert are well on their way and it promises to be a grand performance covering a wide genre of music. This event will be under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency, Dame Marguerite Pindling.

The group commences its weekend of celebrations with a Champagne Dinner and Dance at the Balmoral Club on Thursday, May 21st at 7pm. There will be a raffle and door prizes. The guests will dance the night away to the tunes of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Pop Band. Tickets are $125 and include a complimentary ticket to the Saturday evening grand concert.

The group has planned a cultural exchange tour in June for the great Quebec area, where several choirs will host them as well as a concert at the Basilica in Montreal.

The Mission of Bel Canto Singers Bahamas is to create a safe space and atmosphere that encourages and nurtures its members to live consciously and with a deep sense of civic responsibility.

Members are passionate about personal and musical growth and excellence, and the above attributes are demonstrated though the production of world-class concerts and other musical events, both locally and internationally.

Directed by Mr. Eldridge McPhee, this concert offers the audience a consortium of exciting music which will feature unique arrangements of choral works accompanied by a string and percussion ensemble. A combination of local musicians and members of the Peabody Conservatory of from the world renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

Established in June of 2005, the music genres of the group includes: Sacred Classical, Contemporary Christian, African American Spirituals, Broadway Musicals, Bahamian Folklore, and Secular Classical.

Through the medium of the arts, the Choir provides opportunities for self-growth, development and training, as it continues to create responsible and confident citizens while building an enduring national cultural institution.

Mr. McPhee comments: “For the past 10 years, I have been realizing my vision: to work with individuals, through musical productions, to have an impact on the lives of our members, thereby impacting their communities.

The mark of a good leader is discipline; and after having studied music for some 35 years, I know that talent and discipline create success. This formula is not unique to music.”
