When it comes to protecting our natural resources, getting youngsters involved is important as they’ll continue to protect these resources as they get older. This is the idea behind the Bahamas National Trust’s (BNT) recent kids colouring page and activity booklet, which focuses on students ages three to twelve.

“It has been a pleasure to work with The Sandals Foundation and Wendy’s to promote the importance of protecting our conch populations,” said Eric Carey, BNT Executive Director. “One of the BNT’s goals is to educate as many young Bahamians as we can on ‘Conchservation’, so they can enjoy eating conch in the future.”

Each week, two students are selected as winners of the conch colouring competition, and the BNT is encouraging students in both Nassau and Grand Bahama to continue to participate. The competition will be going on until May 22nd. Parents and kids can find the colouring piece in Friday’s Tribune newspaper or by visiting the Conchservation page on the BNT’s website, www.bnt.bs.

There will be ten winners and then two grand prize winners. The first week’s winners were Elias Hanson Fair Bhatti from St. Andrew’s School and Tianique Thurston from Palmdale Primary School. The second week’s winners were Ashanti Marshall from Xavier’s Lower School and Jadyn Gardiner from Palmdale Primary. The third week’s winners were Tiffany Rutherford from Kingsway Academy and Debra Dorval from Claridge Primary.

“We encourage parents to take their kids to Wendy’s so they can get a great activity book, watch the Conchservation PSA on the BNT YouTube pages or find it on social media or JCN,” said Carey. “As the video says, ‘Don’t be part of the problem, help save our conch.’”
