Man shot outside club dies

A man was shot outside a nightclub on East Street yesterday morning and later died in hospital, police said. The man was sitting in the back of a truck as he and several other people left the establishment on East Street and Gibbs Corner around 1:30 a.m. Police said a gunman walked up to the truck and shot him in the chest.The driver rushed to hospital, but the unidentified man was pronounced dead when he arrived. Police made their usual appeal for anyone with information to contact them.

The shooting marks the 54th murder for 2015. This time last year there were 46 murders. This means there has been a 17 percent increase in murders this year.

Police were still searching yesterday for leads into the murder of fashion designer Jeff Johnson, who was found in a Collins Avenue home that was set afire on Friday. Johnson is better known as Jeff St. John. Johnson, 64, had severe injuries to the face. His body, which was discovered in a bathtub, was not burned, police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean also said yesterday that police have classified the death of Beetrum Guerrier, of Croton Road, Carmichael as a homicide.

Guerrier, the son of a police officer, was found dead on Faith Avenue and St. Vincent Road last Thursday with blunt force trauma to the head. Dean said an autopsy will be performed this week to determine the cause of death.
