The son of a police officer was found dead on the street yesterday in what police suspect is a homicide. Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said 23-year-old Beetrum Guerrier of Croton Road, Carmichael sustained blunt force trauma to the head. His body was discovered on Faith Avenue and St. Vincent Road.

"This male was found around 5:45 a.m. by persons passing in the area," Rolle said on the scene. "We appeal to persons who would have seen or know anything in regards to this incident to reach out to the police and help us to advance this investigation at this time. We are not certain as to how this male came about his injuries."

As Guerrier's body was loaded into the hearse, some of his relatives began screaming. Guerrier's father is attached to the Central Detective Unit (CDU). Rolle said police are following some leads.

If the matter is classified as a murder, it would be the 52nd for the year so far. Last year this same time, there were 45 murders, according to The Nassau Guardian's records. Murders have increased by around 15 percent so far this year.

Guerrier's death comes nearly one week after another man was killed in Nassau Village. Police said the victim was playing dominoes with a group of men on Matthew Street around 10 p.m. when a red Kia SUV drove up to them. The men inside the vehicle started shooting. The man, who was shot in his chest, died at the scene, police said. Investigators renewed their appeal yesterday for information on that murder.
