With the IAAF/BTC World Relays behind them and basking in the glow of their own medal-winning technological performance, the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) is hearing good things from their Family Island BTC TV testers who watched the world event in the comfort of their own homes, courtesty of the BTC IPTV trials. Leon Williams, CEO, reported that the testers were able to clearly watch the IAAF/BTC World Relays.

“We received very positive feedback from our BTC TV tester families; apparently it was a very real thrill and convenience for them to watch a world event in their homes.”

One of the testers, Anton Mackey, a manager at the Hawks Nest Inn on Cat Island said he watched it with their guests.

“It was perfect,” said Mr. Mackey, speaking of the television reception. “About 20 of us watched and it and it was a real treat, especially in HD! I can’t wait for them to finish the testing so we can have all the channels BTC are talking about. Our guests are mostly from the USA and they like to watch their sports, so being able to now provide access can only be good for our business.”

On Inagua, a thrilled Ronald Roker watched not only a perfect picture of the IAAF/BTC World Relays but to his amazement and delight, he was able to enjoy the Floyd Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao boxing match in Las Vegas.

“Everything was perfect, best picture and reception so far in my test period,” said Mr. Roker. I watched with my sons and we enjoyed it to the fullest; we love the movie channels and the sports best of all and can’t wait for it all to come on stream - I will definitely be a customer.”

And now with barely enough time to draw breath before the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival May 7-9, BTC is ‘Ready fa da Road’ for its many customers who will rely on network support to capture and share the images and sounds of this exciting and colourful inaugural event in Nassau.

BTC is the title sponsor, continuing its investment in maintenance and advancement of Bahamian culture with $1m dollars in cash and promotional sponsorship. Four signature events are slated for May 7 to 9 including: Junkamania, a performance of Junkanoo orchestras; Music Masters, a concert of finalists in the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival song competition alongside Grammy award winning artists; Midnight Rush, a Junkanoo rush for the fans; and Road Fever, a street party and costume parade ending at the Arawak Cay Cultural Village.

Leon Williams, said they’ve had surge of interest in customers upgrading their phones or devices to 4G capabilities to capture and share colourful video and images of the upcoming event.

“We’re encouraging customers to go into a BTC store and get ‘ready fa da road’ with an LTE mobile device, SIM card and data package. We recently introduced a new line of affordable LTE Samsung devices. Our mobile engineers have increased coverage along the parade route for Road Fever. Additionally, we’ve deployed two mobile cellular towers at the Cultural Village, so we are confident that we have the extra network capacity needed to handle this weekend’s events. BTC will have a mobile store at the Cultural Village along with top-up vendors at all events to ensure that you won’t run out of minutes while enjoying the festivities.”
