Relatives in disbelief over murdered mom

A close family friend of a mother who was shot dead in front of her four-year-old son on Thursday night said yesterday that while the child has acknowledged the killing, some relatives remain in complete denial.

According to police, the woman, who has been identified as Krissy Mesidor, 24, was walking back to her vehicle after collecting the child from a friend's house around 10 p.m. when a man walked up to her and shot her. Mesidor, a nail technician, was shot to the head.

On scene, distraught relatives shouted, 'What did she do?', as they fought to get past police officers.

Yesterday, former Free National Movement Tall Pines candidate Karen Butler, who described herself as a close family friend, said Mesidor's mother was struggling with the loss the most.

"I spoke to her about three times today (Friday) and over and repeatedly she kept saying she is going out with Krissy today; Krissy is going to pick her up and make sure the child is dressed to go out because they are going to go shopping, and they are going to go for lunch," Butler said. "That really hurt my heart."

When asked why anyone would take Mesidor's life, Butler said she understands she recently left another man and reconnected with her brother, who is the father of Mesidor's child, this week. Butler said she believes that may be connected to her death. Butler said she is very concerned for her young nephew, who saw his mother gunned down.

"He said to me this morning, 'Aunty, my mummy is dead. They shot her, but I did not die; my mummy died,'" she said.

"He is able to recall that. Now, whether he is able to grasp or understand the real meaning of death is another story, but he is recalling it."

Butler described Mesidor as a friendly and giving person, who loved her son. She said Mesidor was often too trusting and that may have contributed to her death.

"She had so much to look forward to in life," she said.

Butler thanked Khandi Gibson of Families Of All Murder Victims (FOAM) for her support and counseling relatives.

"I was able to call on her and she was able to assist with counseling Krissy's mother," she said. "I am quite sure she will provide some assistance for my nephew as well, even in terms of guidance of whom we should send him to.

"At the same time, my brother is also distraught. To see a strong guy who is usually composed, left me distraught. But it just goes to show the wide impact of murder and we don't know it until it really touches home."

Police yesterday launched an island-wide manhunt for Mesidor's killer. Her death pushed the country's murder count to 35 for 2015. Last time this year, there were 24 murders in the country.
