Health Minister Dr. Perry Gomez has disclosed that the government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a consultancy on the redevelopment of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and plans to engage a "qualified health care planner" very shortly. The minister was contributing to the debate on the resolution to accept the mid-year budget statement presented by Prime Minister Perry Christie.

As noted by Transport and Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin, the Ingraham administration introduced the mid-year budget statement process to ensure government accountability in the event of unforeseen or unaccounted for spending.
Gomez reported that the deliverables of the consultancy will include the existing and future service requirements of PMH, detailed functional programs for all areas of the hospital and a master plan for the redevelopment of the hospital on its existing site.

"The primary objective of the functional program and the master plan for PMH's overall site and facilities is to establish the basis for a modern, efficient, economical and adaptable health facility that will support the Ministry of Health and the Public Hospitals Authority in the delivery of high quality patient care well into the next century," the minister said.
