Sessions are proceeding Thursday and Friday at the Grand Lucayan.  Countries participating are: Barbados, Republic of Guyana, Jamaica, Republic of Suriname, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and The Bahamas.

Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie addressed the official opening.  Also in attendance were Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe; Minister of State for Finance, the Hon. Michael Halkitis; Minister of State for Investments the Hon. Khaalis Rolle; and other senior government officials.

Minister Darville said, "It is my understanding that four years ago, the Caribbean Governors of the IDB, who are the finance and planning ministers from their respective countries, decided to meet separately in order to determine common challenges, development opportunities and the means by which to strengthen financial positions and manage debt, prior to the larger annual meeting of all 48 member countries.

"Visiting delegates, though our countries are similar in many aspects, each has its own unique offerings, which makes us all significant global players. Yet, I am certain, that each is in need of additional resources, which can aid in the expansion of various sectors of our respective economies, which can be made available through the IDB, one of the oldest regional development banks in the world."

Quoting American poet Mattie Stepanek, 'Unity is strength ... when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.' Minister Darville said he was pleased the six countries were meeting with the hopes of reaching the common goal of prosperity.

Minister Darville thanked the IDB for choosing Grand Bahama as the host destination and all those involved in bringing so many local, regional and international stakeholders together.
