Glitz, glamor and fun

An evening filled with glitz, glamor and fun is on tap for the weekend for the 51st Annual Heart Ball. Patrons can expect laughter, love, fine food, great music, and the opportunity to win fantastic prizes, according to Heart Ball Committee public relations officer Ingrid Sears.

With little to no talking, she said patrons should expect to dance the night away after The Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award is presented. After that, the Ed Brice Orchestra, the S-G Band and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Dance Band will rock the house for the rest of the evening with brief interruptions to raffle of the anticipated prizes -- a round trip ticket for two on British Airways to London; a two-toned Eco-Drive Diamond Bezel Citizen ladies watch from Colombian Emeralds and a coronary calcium score with Cardiac Consultation by the Bahamas Heart Center; as well as airfare with United Airlines and Bahamasair.

The winner of the signature raffle will take home a pair of David Yurman watches courtesy of John Bull. Ball patrons can also tender bids for auction items -- the Man Pack (a case of lobster and steak from BFS, beer and a grill); a three-night stay at Sandals Emerald Bay with airfare on Sky Bahamas; five-night stay at Resorts World Bimini; a three-night stay at Pineapple Fields in Eleuthera and round trip airfare on Pineapple Air.

There will be lots of artwork up for grabs including pieces from Clifford Fernander, "Big Mo" Morley; Nettica Symonette, and students from Spanish Wells All-Age School. The Salus Project has also partnered with the Heart Ball Committee to sell artwork by young artists. Finding money should not be a problem for Ball patrons as RBC will provide a credit card machine to assist with purchases.

The event attracts guests who wish to have a good time, enjoy great music and fine food, possibly win prizes, all while spending time with others. More importantly, it attracts guests who want to help to repair the hearts of children.

"Every year we host the Annual Heart Ball, we seek to build on the existing platform. Our crowd is growing and we are thankful," said Sears. "We are seeing a diverse crowd and we are thankful to all who have and those who seek to support the Ball or the Heart Foundation."

With the ball held on Valentine's Day, Sears said it's the perfect opportunity to share the day with that special person in your life, receive value for money while knowing that you are also making a donation. The Heart Ball Committee hopes to raise at least $350,000, before expenses at the ball.
