KPMG Supports the National Park System

For the next three years, KPMG, one of The Bahamas leading Audit, Tax and Advisory firms, will be providing sustainable support to the Bahamas National Park System through a donation to the Bahamas National Trust, the manager of the nation’s 27 national parks. The support is, both financial and hands-on as KPMG encourages its employees to volunteer their time at organizations they support. As a part of their sponsorship, KPMG will donate $5,000 per year to the BNT from now until 2017.

Simon Townend, KPMG Partner and a member of the BNT Council helped coordinate this substantial commitment to the Trust. “KPMG is very pleased to support the Bahamas National Trust with this contribution,” said Townend. “We also are planning ways in which KPMG staff can help with hands on projects with the BNT, that will make them part of our commitment to protecting our beautiful islands.”

“We believe that the 27 National Parks, covering over 2 million acres of pine and coppice forest, blue holes, ocean, coral reefs and all of the wildlife that inhabit them, are some of the greatest assets The Bahamas has,” he added.

The donation to the Trust will also help with the education programmes that have become the backbone of the success of environmental education in The Bahamas. “We are particularly interested in the education programmes that the BNT undertakes. We were amazed that the BNT Discovery Club now includes 56 clubs, reaching 1,200 children every year across The Bahamas. Not only does this provide a great life experience for the children, but it also is teaching the next generation about the great importance of our environment,” said Townend. “We hope our commitment to the BNT will inspire others to help raise significantly more funds through its new corporate funding initiatives and help us protect the beauty of our country.”

The BNT is incredibly grateful for this donation and is pleased that KPMG has initiated the corporate charge to support the parks and education. “We thank Simon and the KPMG family for this tremendous support,” said BNT President, Larry Glinton. “KPMG has an enviable record of community support by its member firms worldwide and this donation is further evidence of The Bahamian firm's commitment to protecting our wonderful environment for future generations.” For more information on the Bahamas National Trust programmes or to make a donation or become a member to help preserve The Bahamas, find the BNT on line at @bntbahamas on twitter, @bnt_bahamas on Instagram and at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bahamas-National-Trust/25034035861?ref=hl on Facebook.

The Bahamas National Trust was created by an Act of Parliament in 1959 to build and manage the national park system of the Bahamas. Possibly the only non-governmental organization in the world charged with such a responsibility the TRUST, as it is commonly known works daily to conserve and protect the natural resources of The Bahamas, through stewardship and education for present and future generations. There are currently 27 National Parks managed by the TRUST with more than 1 million acres of marine and terrestrial areas protected.
