The 2015 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic will get underway in early February at the world-class Tom Weiskopf-designed Ocean Club Golf Course and the buzz surrounding this year’s event says organizers are expecting an even more successful tournament than those held in the previous two years since its inception.

Atlantis has been touted as being an exceptional host for the newbie tournament, which gives some of the world’s best female golfers the opportunity to show off their skills in paradise. Golf Course GM Robbie Leming said preparations for this year’s round of play are “going really well.”

“We had a little set back in early December with some rainfall and some cold fronts that came through, but we’re recovering nicely. The golf course is ready right now for competition. We’ve lowered the heights for tournament cut and the greens are rolling well…

“Every year it seems to get a little bit easier… We know just what to expect and what issues might arise, so we’re ahead of the game and we’re looking forward to this event. We obviously can’t control the weather… Last year the weather cooperated and it was fantastic! Hopefully we get that same cooperation this year,” explained Leming, adding a bit of praise for the people that are tagged with caring for those greens. “Our maintenance team is one of the best crews in the world… those guys are selfless. They come out every day, they’re very prideful, they look forward to the event and push forward to it.”

It takes some 26 individuals making up the Ocean Club Golf Course maintenance team and an additional 30 Atlantis team members coupled with a slew of volunteers to bring it all together. Leming says with less than a month away, they are all just looking forward to another successful tournament.

“I don’t think there is anything that we can’t overcome at this point. Two years ago we overcame 15 inches of rain in eight hours. So we’ve been challenged in the past, but I think moving forward into the future, the team works very well together from all aspects.”
