Coming into the limelight, lottery company Asue Draw has stepped forward as a major sponsor of the first major regatta of the year - the "King" Eric Gibson All-for-One Regatta set for this weekend in the waters of Montagu Bay.
The popular web shop business presented a check of $2,500 to the regatta committee yesterday, serving to defray the costs of what is expected to be the biggest drawing regatta, in terms of funds, in the history of sloop sailing in The Bahamas. In total, Asue Draw plans to contribute about $200,000 toward the staging of regattas in the country for the calendar year.
Representing the company yesterday, Delano Springer said that they consider it their corporate duty to get involved, and they would like to thank the organizers for carrying on the great tradition of sloop sailing in this country that was promoted so strongly by late "King'' Eric Gibson. It was certainly a passion of "King" Eric, after whom the All-for-One Regatta is named.
"We at Asue Draw are proud to be a part of an initiative such as this, and we would like to continue to show our support in 2015 with continued sponsorship. We thank the late 'King' Eric Gibson and the organizers of this regatta, and on behalf of Asue Draw, we look forward to a grand event," said Springer.
The regatta itself is being pushed strongly by the sons of "King" Eric, Minister of Labour & National Insurance Shane Gibson and Eric Jr. Eric Gibson Jr. is the proprietor of Bahama Grill where the press conference was held yesterday, and the chairman of the regatta committee.
The minister said that he is thankful to Asue Draw for their participation in this event, and he looks forward to more corporate citizens coming on board.
"The fact that Asue Draw came forward and provided us with this assistance, it says a lot about their company and what they stand for," said Minister Gibson. "We believe that it will go a long way in helping to continue the tradition and legacy of sloop sailing in The Bahamas. Once again, we thank Asue Draw, and we look forward to a great event."
Eric Jr. said that it is through sponsorship like that of Asue Draw which enables the tradition of sloop sailing, one of the greatest pastimes in The Bahamas, to continue.
"On behalf of the Gibson family, I would like to say thank you to Asur Draw," said Eric Jr. "We recognize that you guys know that it is not something that you have to do, but you do it anyway because you recognize the importance of continuing the support for sloop sailing in The Bahamas. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for that. We would like to thank all of the sponsors who came on board so far. Also, thanks to the ministry (Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government) for recognizing this regatta as a major regatta. We look forward to an event like no other."
The Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government is the ministry with responsibility for regattas in the country.
Apart from Asue Draw, sponsors such as Burns House, John Bull, Island Luck, the FML Group of Companies, and Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard have come on board to help defray the costs of the regatta.
The public is invited to come out and support what is expected to be a grand event.
