(DEFENDING CHAMPION)

WEEK 16
Thursday's game
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars, 8:25 p.m.
The loser of this game could very well have the number one pick in next year's NFL Draft. Quite frankly, it's a toss-up. I'm a stickler for defense so I have to go with the squad that has been more impressive on that side of the ball, and that's the Jaguars. They could bring the pressure with their front four, and their defense has been more consistent than that of the Titans. Offensively, I don't expect much points to go up in this one.... just an old fashioned defensive slugfest.
Jaguars 12, Titans 10

Saturday's games
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, 4:30 p.m.
Nick Foles has returned to practice for the Eagles, and that is vital because the division title is still up for grabs, especially with the Cowboys hosting the Colts on Sunday. Regardless of whether he plays or not, I like the Eagles in this game though. They still have a top five offense, and their defense is much improved even without Trent Cole. Cole appears to be done for the year with a broken hand. Be that as it may, the Redskins have trouble scoring all of a sudden, no matter who starts at quarterback. I like the Eagles on the road to keep their playoff hopes alive, and hopefully sneak back into first place in the National Football Conference's (NFC) East division.
Eagles 30, Redskins 20

San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers, 8:25 p.m.
This Saturday night affair don't mean much to the Niners, but everything is on the line for the Chargers. Win and they still have a realistic shot at the playoffs. Lose and they're done. For that reason alone, I'm going with the Chargers. They're more desperate than the Niners at this point. Besides, the Niners haven't really been focussed on saving their season anyway. They seem content to play out the schedule.
Chargers 24, 49ers 16

Sunday's games
Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m.
Even though the Panthers have won two straight games and are still alive for the NFC South title, I don't know if I could trust them to knock off the Browns this week. On the other hand, I don't know what Browns team is going to show up - the one that was impressive against the playoff bound Colts two weeks ago, or the one that got embarrassed by the Bengals last week. I have a feeling I might regret this, but I'm taking the Browns in this one, only because of the talent they have available to them on both sides of the ball. I like for them to establish the running game early, and somehow grind out a win against these Panthers. Johnny Manziel, otherwise known as "Johnny Football", should bounce back after a horrendous performance last week.
Browns 24, Panthers 23

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.
The Lions control their own destiny in the NFC North. Their hopes for a division title, and maybe even a playoff spot, might come down to the season finale against the Packers though. The Bears have completely checked out of this season. They're starting Jimmy Clausen over Jay Cutler on Sunday, and rightly so. Cutler has a league-leading 18 interceptions, and the Bears need to see what they have in Clausen so they can decide what they're going to do with Cutler in the offseason. The Lions will be too much for them on this day.
Lions 33, Bears 23

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans, 1 p.m.
The Ravens is another one of those teams which control their own destiny, but the Texans are still alive, although just barely. I think both teams will lay it all out on the line in this game, but I have to go with the more talented squad, and that's the Ravens. Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil just might be the most dominant pass rushing duo in the NFL. They have combined for 8.5 sacks in the past two weeks alone. On the other side of the ball, the Ravens have been well-balanced. Even a home date won't be able to save the Texans this week.
Ravens 20, Texans 17

Minnesota Vikings at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.
After losing convincingly in back-to-back games, the Dolphins have played themselves right out of a playoff spot. Even wins in their last two games probably won't save them. Ryan Tannehill has been progressive this year, and the defense is much improved, but the Fins consistently blow big games down the stretch. They have too much talent to be missing the playoffs year after year. I think the Fins will end their season on a high note and win their last two games, but they'll probably still be on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs are concerned, and because of that, Joe Philbin's days in Miami are numbered.
Dolphins 27, Vikings 19

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m.
This battle in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday will probably determine the division winner for this year. It's a huge game for both teams. A lot of points should go up in this one. The Falcons might be without their starting wide receiver tandem though. They have a lot of depth at that position, but no Julio Jones and Roddy White, and suddenly it becomes that much easier for the Saints. The Saints is one of those teams that is hard to figure out. They've lost three straight at home, but slaughtered the Bears on the road on Monday night. I think we'll see the Monday night version of the Saints in this one.
Saints 34, Falcons 30

New England Patriots at N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m.
Tom Brady and the Pats are in full playoff mode. The Jets gave them quite a battle in their first game this season up in Foxborough, but since that time, the Pats have been near flawless while the Jets have slipped further and further into oblivion. The Jets only hope in this game is to bring the pressure early and often. With the way the Pats' offensive line has been holding up, I don't see them doing that. Tom Brady and the Pats will have a field day. The Jets won't be able to stop Rob Gronkowski down the middle of the field. He should be good for at least two scores. The Jets' offense on the whole might not be able to score that much.
Patriots 30, Jets 13

Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.
This game right here is crucial for both teams. As good as the Steelers have been on the road in back-to-back weeks, the last time they were at Heinz Field, they got derailed by the Saints. Somehow, the Steelers seem to relax a bit more when they're at home. I could certainly see the Chiefs coming in there on Sunday and pulling off the upset. When playing on the road in December, you should always bring a shut-down defense and a potent running game. The Chiefs have both.
Chiefs 23, Steelers 20

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.
How quickly things change! The Packers blew a game they probably should have won last week, and now they find themselves battling for a playoff spot in the NFC. They went from the number one team in the power rankings a week ago, to the number six seed in the NFC. I think they'll get back on track this week though. Besides, they still have a realistic shot at winning the division title. Aaron Rodgers might pass for 400 yards on that 24th ranked passing defense of the Buccaneers this week. They'll be able to rack up the yards through the air, and I think they'll get good balance from Eddie Lacy running the ball as well.
Packers 42, Buccaneers 20

N.Y. Giants at St. Louis Rams, 4:05 p.m.
Both of these teams will miss the playoffs this year, but the Rams have truly been impressive, particularly on defense. The Giants, on the other hand, have played well in spurts but for the most part, they've been atrocious. Once again, Eli Manning has been a turnover machine for them. At least he's a lot better than last year when he threw a league high 27 picks. The Giants' offense has been sporadic, and on top of that, the Rams' defense has been great. After back-to-back shutouts, they gave up just 12 in a loss to the Cardinals last week. I'll go with defense over offense any day, particularly in December.
Rams 24, Giants 16

Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.
The Colts bring the league's top ranked passing attack into "Jerry's World" on Sunday evening. As good as the Cowboys have been this December, they face a real task in the Colts this week. I'm not sure if the Cowboys' defensive backs can keep up with the Colts' receivers. Andrew Luck will pass the ball all over the field on them. Even though they have already locked up their division title, the Colts will still come out aggressively and take the game to the Cowboys. I think the 'Boys will be playing catch-up straight through in this one.
Colts 34, Cowboys 27

Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders, 4:25 p.m.
Even though the Bills have to travel across the country to take on the Raiders in this one, they realize that they are still alive in the playoff chase, so I'm pretty sure they'll come ready to play. The Bills' pass rush will be too much for young Derek Carr. The Raiders' signal caller has had an up and down season, but appears to have a bright future ahead of him. This season will continue to be painful though. Even at two wins, the Raiders have overachieved. They'll be no match for the Bills on Sunday.
Bills 26, Raiders 10

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals, 8:30 p.m.
This Sunday night affair features division rivals who love nothing more than to beat up on each other. All year, this division has belonged to the Cards, and they're still unbeaten at home, but I think the Super Bowl Champs realize what's stake in this one. Win and they could be on their way to another division title, lose and they could miss the playoffs entirely. I like the Seahawks to be the more aggressive team on Sunday night. Marshawn Lynch will be tough for the Cards to contain, and defensively, they'll make it tough on Ryan Lindley to find any kind of rhythm.
Seahawks 23, Cardinals 17

Monday's game
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals, 8:30 p.m.
The Broncos really want to keep pace with the Pats for home-field advantage in the American Football Conference (AFC), but the Bengals have a chance to solidify their grip on their division this week, and I think they'll take advantage of that. I know Andy Dalton is not nearly as consistent as Peyton Manning, but the Bengals know how to turn it up a notch when they need to. I think they'll get a big performance from their backfield tandem of Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill. This one should be a battle all the way through, but somehow, someway, the Bengals will rally behind their home crowd and pull out a tough win.
Bengals 27, Broncos 24

WEEK 14: 14-2
OVERALL: 136-71-1

WEEK 16
Thursday's game
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars, 8:25 p.m.
In what has to be the worst edition of Thursday Night Football this season, the bottom feeders of the AFC South are competing for a high draft pick in next year's draft, as their chances to make the playoffs ended when the season started. I probably won't be watching this game, but the home team should be good enough to win against another bad team.
Jaguars 20, Titans 14

Saturday's games
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, 4:30 p.m.
Philly needs to get on track after two bad losses at home, and they picked the right time to run into the Redskins. As much as I would like to convince myself that Robert Griffin III can pull off a huge upset and salvage his reputation at quarterback, I don't see it happening with an Eagles team that's on the doorstep of a playoff berth and a division title. A balanced attack gets the job done for the "Birds".
Eagles 27, Redskins 17

San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers, 8:25 p.m.
The Chargers are still clinging on to playoff hopes and the 49ers would love to play spoiler after being eliminated from the playoffs last week. I'm not sure what San Francisco team will show up on Saturday night but I believe San Diego will play a complete game behind a strong passing day from Phillip Rivers. I still don't believe Colin Kaepernick can go out there and score enough points to win a game, so I'm riding with the quarterback that is usually clutch in December.
Chargers 24, 49ers 13

Sunday's games
Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m.
The "Johnny Football" era got off to a terrible start in Cleveland last week and he finds himself in a tough spot on Sunday, going up against a Panthers team that's still alive in the playoff hunt. I still can't trust Johnny Manziel to leave Charlotte with a victory and I believe their inability to score points will cost them in a game that will be won by a thin margin. It's hard to go against Carolina on Sunday.
Panthers 17, Browns 16

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.
With Jay Cutler being benched in favor of Jimmy Clausen for this week's game, any chance of the Bears playing spoiler on Sunday has gone astray like a Cutler pass attempt. Detroit is in great shape to win the NFC North, and this game will set them up perfectly for a showdown at Lambeau Field next week.
Lions 30, Bears 13

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans, 1 p.m.
Baltimore controls their own playoff destiny at this point in the season and I don't see them being derailed by the Texans on Sunday. This will be a game where the Ravens' stout defense will have to dominate in the run game and Joe Flacco will have to take care of the football. I believe Baltimore will overwhelm Houston and capture an impressive win on Sunday.
Ravens 23, Texans 10

Minnesota Vikings at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.
Miami has pretty much played themselves out of playoff contention after two bad losses and I believe they have squandered a great opportunity to be a Cinderella story in this year's postseason. While their chances are slim, I believe the Fins will get back on track and play a very impressive game to end their losing skid. Defense leads the way against Teddy "Two Gloves" Bridgewater and the Vikings.
Dolphins 28, Vikings 12

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m.
With this game pretty much being the NFC South championship game, can my Falcons pull off a huge victory to spoil the Saints' chances of playing January football? I honestly believe they can, and I'm banking on another career day from a healthier Julio Jones and New Orleans playing catch-up all game. It's been a very weird year for the Saints especially at home, so I believe the Falcons can go into a playoff environment and squeeze out a victory to be in prime position to win the NFC South.
Falcons 30, Saints 27

New England Patriots at N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m.
In what may be Rex Ryan's last home game as the Jets' head coach, I know he would love to go out with a bang against the division rival Patriots. Unfortunately, that won't happen, because I believe New England will turn this game into a blowout quickly.
Patriots 37, Jets 10

Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.
The Steelers seem to get more dangerous by the week and I believe that this team has a strong chance to win the AFC if they make the playoffs. As long as Le'Veon Bell continues to look like the best running back in football and Antonio Brown plays like the best wide receiver in football, then I don't see the Chiefs having much of a chance on the road.
Steelers 26, Chiefs 13

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.
Contrary to what Bucs fans may be thinking right now, they don't have any chance of playing spoiler on Sunday. Aaron Rodgers will be back to his normal self and I expect a big win on the road leading up to a Week 17 showdown against Detroit.
Packers 34, Buccaneers 12

N.Y. Giants at St. Louis Rams, 4:05 p.m.
Despite their sub .500 record, the Rams have been one of the most impressive teams at home this season. I expect that dominance to be present on Sunday, coupled with a shaky Eli Manning performance to seal a victory for St. Louis.
Rams 27, Giants 16

Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.
With DeMarco "Spray Tan" Murray's status uncertain for Sunday, the pressure lies on Tony Romo's arm to deliver a win against a very good Colts team. I believe that Andrew Luck will have a great passing day and Indy's defense will be disruptive in the trenches and the secondary. A loss doesn't kill the Cowboys' chances of making the playoffs, but it could set up another play-in game on the final Sunday of the season.
Colts 28, Cowboys 20

Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders, 4:25 p.m.
Buffalo should win this game, but Oakland has been a competitive team at home this year. As much as I would trust the Raiders to win a game at home against a good opponent, they're still the Raiders.
Bills 21, Raiders 16

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals, 8:30 p.m.
As I've said before, elite quarterback play is needed to beat Seattle, and the last time I checked, Ryan Lindley is not that. With the NFC West on the line in this game, I expect the Seahawks to make Lindley's day miserable and force multiple turnovers that will lead to scores. The Cardinals may still be in the playoffs, but Seattle will make sure that Arizona is a wild card team instead of a division winner.
Seahawks 20, Cardinals 9

Monday's game
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals, 8:30 p.m.
The Bengals were impressive on defense against the Browns on Sunday, but they will need to exceed that performance in order to prevent Peyton Manning from leading the Broncos to a win on Monday Night Football. I'm still not sold on Cincy as a playoff contender this year and Andy Dalton will not do enough on Monday to lead his team to victory. The run-heavy formula utilized by Denver will take a backseat to the passing game this week, and Manning will throw at least three touchdowns. Denver will be better on Monday and get a step closer to securing a first round bye.
Broncos 31, Bengals 19

WEEK 14: 9-7
OVERALL: 121-86-1

WEEK 16
Thursday's game
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars, 8:25 p.m.
This should be a "snoozefest". Two teams with a combined record of 4-24 collide to hopefully try to grab four wins for the year. The Titans seem to be the weaker team here, so I have to go with the Jaguars.
Jaguars 24, Titans 16

Saturday's games
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, 4:30 p.m.
Upset of the week! I know many will find it incredibly difficult to think the Redskins have a shot at beating the Eagles, but they do. Spoilers within the division take pleasure in ruining postseason hopes for their rivals. This is where we will see the struggling Mark Sanchez we saw a couple years ago in New York. This is also where you will see the metaphoric "spit in the face" from DeSean Jackson to his former team. Expect Robert Griffin III to make plays downfield, putting tremendous pressure on the Eagles. The Redskins will win in a thriller.
Redskins 30, Eagles 27

San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers, 8:25 p.m.
The 49ers are out of the playoff race and the one hundred million dollar man Colin Kaepernick played more like the "cable guy" this season. They will try to make the most out of the season, and ruin the chances of their California neighbors in the process.
49ers 24, Chargers 20

Sunday's games
Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m.
There is so much at stake for a 5-8-1 team in the Carolina Panthers. Either they win the division to enter the postseason or they will be at some Miami Beach resort and spa watching the postseason games from their suites. Either way, more is at stake for the Panthers than the Browns. They have to find a way to win at home this Sunday to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Panthers 22, Browns 20

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.
The Bears don't stand a chance if they start Jay Cutler. The good news for them is that Jimmy Clausen will start at quarterback. For once we will see how good the Bears can really be with a quarterback who wants to win. The Bears will pull off a big upset on Sunday against the Lions in one of the greatest rivalries in football.
Bears 27, Lions 23

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans, 1 p.m.
Spoiler alerts all around the NFL this weekend, and here goes another one. The Texans have blown some games they should have won this season, but they have also won some big ones that we didn't expect them to win. This will be one of those we don't expect them to win, but they will.
Texans 23, Ravens 20

Minnesota Vikings at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m.
The Dolphins have a very slim chance of getting in the postseason, and they know this. Against the Vikings, it should be a good measure of how bad they have become over the last several weeks, but is there room for improvement next year. Joe Philbin's job is on the line, and if this team really likes this coach, they will respond.
Dolphins 23, Vikings 13

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m.
No single game this week carries more weight than this one. These two teams are in the worst division in football, where seven wins could win the division. Both are fighting for a playoff spot. The Saints have been dismal at home, but this is where we see Drew Brees rally his troops and win the most important game of the season for them.
Saints 27, Falcons 26

New England Patriots at N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m.
The Jets are horrible, but they always give the Patriots a run for their money. Will that happen on Sunday... not a chance.
Patriots 35, Jets 14

Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m.
The Steelers have lost games at home against Tampa Bay and New Orleans, and have won seven games against AFC opponents. Both teams have a lot to play for. For the Steelers, a win might lock up a playoff spot for them. The Chiefs seek to defeat the Steelers at home to keep their playoff hopes alive. With all of the pressure behind this game, I am going with the strongest defense, and that belongs to the Chiefs.
Chiefs 23, Steelers 20

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.
Asking if the Buccaneers can beat the Packers is like asking if BEC can keep the lights on and if Bahamasair can turn a profit. Chances are slim both ways. It is possible, but highly unlikely.
Packers 31, Buccaneers 17

N.Y. Giants at St. Louis Rams, 4:05 p.m.
The Giants will hope that the Odell Beckham Jr. show continues to be amazing on the road, against the Rams. The Rams' defense is solid, and I expect that to slow down the Giants who won their last two games.
Rams 20, Giants 16

Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.
The Cowboys are playing Super Bowl type football, and this may be the year Tony Romo leads them to the big dance. I expect the Cowboys to keep it rolling in December.
Cowboys 31, Colts 27

Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders, 4:25 p.m.
Do you believe in magic? I do! I think the Raiders have one more win in them.
Raiders 24, Bills 20

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals, 8:30 p.m.
The Cardinals are hurting and this game will show just how bad they are hurting. Injuries have them in a volatile state, and the Seahawks should be able to take advantage of that.
Seahawks 16, Cardinals 10

Monday's game
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals, 8:30 p.m.
The Broncos will show why they are the AFC Champions in this game. I think they'll get an impressive blowout. Marvin Lewis's job should be on the line if the Bengals fail to get in the postseason or win a postseason game this year.
Broncos 35, Bengals 20
