Removal of duties for private airlines a good option

Dear Editor,
I heard the prime minister's comments on the issue of the unpaid duties facing the operators of licensed private airlines in The Bahamas. They were, as usual, sensible and well-reasoned comments.
It is true that business people should always accept responsibility for their own debts and liabilities, like the rest of us. It is also true that many expect to be treated with kid gloves by patronizing and vote-seeking politicians (viz. the attitude taken by many straw vendors in relation to paying for their own upgraded facilities).
But I would hope that government would consider this particular industry, and the companies involved, in the context in which they belong.
