The Kiwanis Club of Over The Hill will be celebrating its 40th year in existence next year. The club was founded on the basic premise of providing service to the downtrodden and disenfranchised, particularly children and the elderly. Throughout the club's 39 years of service to the Bahamian community, its leaders have been motivated to provide altruistic service, with its new president being no different.
Under the theme "Going Back to Real Service" Ramon Gibson is leading the Kiwanis Club of Over The Hill into its 40th year of service.
Gibson, the president for the 2014-2015 administrative year, is a strong believer in helping others. His career path by design is one of service to country and contributing to the health of his fellow man.
Gibson is a leading seaman with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, where he has been employed since 1999. He presently serves as the medic onboard the HMBS Bahamas and holds an associate degree in health science laboratory technology from George Washington University. He has also earned the qualifications of:
o Medical lab technician;
o Combat medic;
o Emergency medical technician (EMT);
o Certified army instructor;
o American Heart Association basic life support instructor;
o Certified urban search and rescuer;
o Certified rapid HIV and STI tester.
President Ramon is married to Kathryn Gibson nee Glass. They celebrated eleven years of marriage this year and are the proud parents of two beautiful children, Reiyah and Kahmanei.
Through his desire to help others, he joined the Kiwanis Club of Over the Hill in 2005, where his exceptional commitment to service earned him the Kiwanis Club of Over The Hill Kiwanian of The Year Award for the 2005-2006 administrative year. Since joining the club, Ramon has served in numerous capacities including board director, committee chairman, vice president and president designate. He enjoys having the opportunity to do his civic duty through participation in numerous outreach programs such as the Kiwanis Club of Over The Hill's breakfast program at the Yellow Elder and Carmichael Primary Schools, where the club feeds students whose parents have difficulty providing a suitable meal for them.
Ramon enjoys going into the inner city on Saturdays and providing food and drinks (the Kiwanis Club's "hot dog Saturdays") for the children of various communities, while providing mentorship and holistic activities. The passion of the club's new president is demonstrated in his efforts to make a positive difference in The Bahamas and by extension the world. He lives by the words "always keep striving to reach your full potential".
Ramon is a member of Holy Family Church, where he is active in the men's group. He enjoys basketball, swimming, painting, cooking and listening to music.
