Zonta Club of New Providence is welcoming more than seasonal changes this fall, with a new board instated last month — committed to continuing the efforts of empowering women throughout the country.

During a recent ceremony, nearly one dozen members were ushered into new positions and charged with maintaining and advancing the standards and goals of the organization for the 2014-2015 year.

“It is indeed a great pleasure to welcome this group of dedicated, visionary ladies that will lead the Zonta Club of New Providence for the next year” said Spokesperson Dr. Theresa Moxey-Adderley. “There is no doubt that with all the challenges presently facing women in this country, this organization has chosen a fine and able group of women who are heartfelt and determined to tackle issues in an effective manner in order to create change in The Bahamas.”

Women’s rights activist Marion Bethel was the guest speaker at the Installation ceremony that took place September 10, at Luciano’s restaurant on West Bay Street. All in attendance were “challenged to have the courage of the women of The Bahamas Suffrage Movement to conquer the challenges facing women today.”

The new Zonta Club of New Providence board includes President Marisa D Mason-Smith, Vice President Charise Archer, Recording Secretary Tamara Turnquest-Grant, Treasurer Yvette Ingraham, Corresponding Secretary Simone Rolle-Graham, Assistant Treasurer Kayla Darville, Directors Claudine Farquharson, Alexandra Hall, Dr. Theresa Adderley and Rosemarie Thompson and President Elect- Garnell Johnson.

Already, the new officers and directors, along with its faithful members of the Zonta Club of New Providence, have come off the blocks with a targeted list of goals for the next year.

“First up is the upcoming Constitutional Referendum,” said Dr. Moxey-Adderley. “We coined the phrase - Say No, Vote Yes – because we are saying ‘no’ to discrimination against women in all forms and voting yes to end discrimination against women in our constitution.”

Moxey-Adderley said more information about the campaign will be coming in the next coming weeks.
