Australian ultra-marathon swimmer CHLO? McCARDEL is now within 20kms of setting a new word record

Tue, Oct 21st 2014, 10:00 PM

Australian ultra-marathon swimmer CHLOË McCARDEL is now within 20kms of setting a new word record for open water swimming, expecting to complete the 127kms non-stop and unassisted swim within the next 8 hours.

Having already been swimming for 36 hours, Chloë is fatigued both mentally and physically, and has been stung by jelly fish overnight. Two independent observers on Chloë’s support vessels are scrutinising the attempt, ensuring international MSF regulations are being maintained. For the solo effort to be recognised as a record, she must not touch any vessel or another person during her swim.

Her landing point is expected to be Montagu Beach, Nassau in the Bahamas. Members of the public expecting to welcome Chloë ashore are reminded not to offer assistance to Chloë until the official scrutineers are satisfied that she reached landfall without assistance.
