Operation Potcake turns (Operation Potcat 2105)

Mon, Oct 6th 2014, 11:16 AM

It's official! Operation Potcake 2015 will be Operation Potcat 2105. This is due to the widespread and ongoing outbreak of distemper on New Providence Island. We believe that surgeries may compromise dogs' immune systems and may put them at risk.

Dr. Diana Scollard and her team will be running the cat clinic at the Bahamas Humane Society as was done last year.

Then, we will also be travelling to one of the Family Islands to hold one or two clinics there. That island will be Eleuthera.

So, the plan is to stick with the dates as already set.

Fly in - Tuesday, January 27th 2015 (only applies to the cat team flying in, and the Eleuthera teams flying out)

Clinic set up - Wednesday, January 28th (so the WHOLE TEAM is there to set up together)

Surgery - Thursday, January 29th - Tuesday, February 3rd (half day surgery and pack up day on Tuesday, then party that night!)

Fly out - Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 (only applies to the cat team flying out, and the Eleuthera teams flying home)

As far as volunteers go, we would like to have local volunteers fill in the positions at all clinics, BHS and Eleuthera.

This means, sadly, that all of you amazing foreign volunteers will not be required to travel here this year. We will miss you and your dedicated hard work on behalf of our potcakes. Thank you all so much for volunteering in the past and offering to volunteer for 2015. Please keep us in your plans for 2016! The "but" to this is... if you have somewhere here in Nassau to stay and will be travelling down this way during our clinic dates, you are more than welcome to join us!

To our amazing local volunteers, please let me know (and please cc Lissa lissastingray@yaoo.com ) if you are interested in the Eleuthera clinics. You will be responsible for paying your own way there, and we don't know yet about accommodation.

If you would like to be on the BHS cat clinic team (we will need a LOT of trappers, transporters, cage cleaning and registration people!), please let me know directly. If I do not already have a current volunteer form for you, please complete and return one.

Thank you all!
