Severe Weather Warning

The Bahamas Departmen of Meteorology has been issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning from 5:00am to 8:0am Tuesday,September 23, 2014.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING CONTINUES FOR BIMINI,GRAND BAHAMA, ANDROS, ABACO AND NOW INCLUDES THE BERRY ISLANDS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 5:00am radar and satellite imagery showed large clusters of active thunderstorms THUNDERSTORMS NEAR AND OVER BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, ANDROS, ABACO AND THE BERRY ISLANDS.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times and are capable of generating gusty winds, dangerous lighting, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. LOCALIZED FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditionsn worsen. Residents should not seek shelter or under trees or in water as these can become lightening conductors. THERE WILL ALSO BE PONDING OF WATER ON ROADS SO DRIVERS ARE ASKED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION.
