Bowling
The Bahamas Bowling Federation's (BBF) Monthly Handicap Tournament is set for this Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. at Mario's Bowling and Family Entertainment Palace. The entrance fee for the event is $40 per bowler. The federation is requesting the participation of all of the bowlers under its jurisdiction.

Softball
The Banker's Athletics Association wishes to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation for the support shown by its members at the memorial, funeral and tribute at the Banker's Softball Field, this past weekend, to honor Sam Haven. The league extends special thanks to Family Guardian, British Fidelity, the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Commonwealth Bank, CIBC FirstCaribbean, Ansbacher, the Bank of The Bahamas and BAF Financial, who partnered with the board of directors of the Banker's Athletics Association to host the tribute at the Banker's Softball Field on Saturday. This coming Saturday, the pennant will be decided as the Fidelity Bulldogs will take on BAF Financial. Also, the playoffs will get underway. At 11 a.m., Fidelity will take on BAF Financial, at 12:30 p.m., Colina will battle Scotiabank, and at 2 p.m., CIBC FirstCaribbean will go up against RBC. The league is encouraging the public to come out and show support.

Basketball
The Bahamas Basketball Federation (BBF) is planning to host a Level I Coaches Clinic from September 26-28, at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium. The clinic, which will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, is specifically designed for basketball coaches in the private high school system in New Providence. FIBA Americas, the governing body for basketball in this region, will be sending one of its international instructors to serve as the chief clinician, thus allowing for candidates to be internationally licensed. This undertaking is in keeping the goal of both the Ministry of Education and the BBF to have trained, qualified and certified coaches in Bahamian high schools. The clinic will serve to ensure that the growth, promotion and development of the sport of basketball continue here in The Bahamas.

Boxing
A couple of exciting matches were held at the Champion Amateur Boxing Club's (CABC) "Determination, Confidence, & True Grit" amateur boxing show this past Saturday. Lashawn McKinney won on points over Shaton Jeanith, 23-18, and James Armbrister defeated Rodelyn Denize, 46-43. In exhibition matches, Wilmond Philippe fought Cheavar Fowler, Michael Gomez took on Reggie Danlag, Lennox Boyce battled Gino Augustin out of Abaco, and Don Rolle and Glovens Escarment, out of Abaco, mixed it up. The most outstanding boxer of the evening was Lennox Boyce and the most improved boxer was Don Rolle. The best fight of the evening was James Armbrister going up against Rodelyn Denize. The CABC will stage the "Moving Forward" Amateur Boxing Show on Saturday September 27, and the 21st L. Garth Wright Sr. Golden Gloves Amateur Boxing Tournament on Saturday October 11.

Baseball
Registration for the 2015 Junior Baseball League of Nassau's (JBLN) baseball and softball seasons will be done online at the website www.jblnbaseball.com. The registration process is now open, and payments can be made at the JBLN's Field of Dreams Complex on Saturday September 20 or Saturday September 27, from the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or at Island Wholesale in the care of league commissioner Jeff Albury. League officials will also be on hand to provide information for new players and parents who wish to join the league and register. The final registration fee payment and cut off date is Saturday October 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Tryouts for new players and players moving upward to another age group will be also held at the complex on Saturday October 4, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. The Draft Night of the league is Tuesday October 7, and it will get underway at 7 p.m. The pre-season starts on Wednesday November 12, and lasts five weeks ending Sunday December 14. The regular season is set to starts on Wednesday January 14, 2015, and the league's official opening day is set for Saturday January 17, 2015. Parents are encouraged to register early this year, and online only, before going to the field to pay the fees.

Softball
The Baptist Sports Council (BSC) will hold a meeting on Saturday September 20, at 10 a.m. at the Jordan Prince William Baptist High School on Cowpen Road, for all churches interested in participating in the 2014 Coca-Cola Softball Classic. The season will comprise of the men, women and 19-and-under divisions. The cost is $200 per team in each division. All churches interested in participating are urged to send two members. Refreshments will be served. At that same time, plans will be discussed for the 2014 Track and Field Classic that will be held Saturday October 11, at the original Thomas A. Robinson Track and Field Stadium. The categories for the track meet include under-five, under-10, under-15, under-20, open and masters men and women. The registration fee is $5 per athlete. All churches interested in participating are urged to send two members.

Tennis
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association's (BLTA) Ham Tennis Open will be held at the BLTA's National Tennis Center from September 26 to October 4. A number of senior divisions will be contested: 45-and-over men; 55-and-over men; and 60-and-over men in singles; and the same three age categories in the open and mixed doubles divisions. The donation for the event is $50 per entrant, and all proceeds will go toward the development of the BLTA's National Tennis Center. Athletics
David Charlton, the head coach and founder of the Star Trackers Track and Field Club, will be inducted into the Howard University Bison Express Hall of Fame on Friday September 26, in Washington, D.C. The Star Trackers wish to thank Charlton for his unselfish contribution to the club and to athletics in the country on the whole and also wish to congratulate him for the honor. At Howard, Coach Charlton was a member of the 1982 4x400 meters (m) relay team that set a new National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record, he was the 1983 Penn Relays 400m hurdles champion, a three-time 'most outstanding performer' at the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track & Field Championships and a three-time All-American. Charlton is always grateful to the contributions made by Coach Anita Doherty, the late coaches Errol Bodie and William Moultrie, and Coach Keith Parker to the Star Trackers Club. He is also grateful for the opportunities provided to him by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA).
