Grand Bahama's finest primary and high school scholar-athletes will be on display and rewarded for their hard work at the first ever Grand Bahama Sports "Scholar-Athlete of the Year" banquet.
With overwhelming support from school principals and athletic directors, Grand Bahama Sports is launching its "Scholar-Athlete of the Year" banquet as another way to recognize the school's best and brightest senior student-athletes for their athletic achievements and excellence in the classroom.
"The first Grand Bahama Sports 'Scholar-Athlete of the Year' banquet is a fitting conclusion to the 2014-2015 academic year, as we celebrate the best of the best that both associations have to offer," said Buster Laing from Grand Bahama Sports. "We are looking forward to honoring those graduating student-athletes who excelled at the highest level both in athletic competition and in the classroom. These young people we will be spotlighting at the banquet best represent the core value of Grand Bahama Sports - academic and athletic excellence."
The invitation-only event is set for Friday, April 17, 2015 for high school seniors, and Sunday, April 19, 2015 for primary school seniors, at the Hilton Outten Auditorium on Settlers Way, Grand Bahama. The program will be awarding grants and college scholarships to outstanding primary and high school student-athletes, as well as awards to the top male and female scholar athlete and "Team of the Year" award.
The finalists will attend the dinner not knowing who the male and female scholar-athletes of the year will be. The two high school winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship/grant. A primary school male and female runner-up will receive a $750 scholarship/grant. Finalists will be chosen from a pool that includes one male and one female nominee from each school within the Grand Bahama primary and secondary schools athletic associations.
