Severe Weather Warning

The Bahamas Departmen of Meteorology has been issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning from 12:15pm EDT until 3:300pm Monday, August 25, 2014.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE MAYAGUANA, CROOKED ISLANDS AND ACKLINS, LONG CAY AND INAGUA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 12:00 pm observation, and satellite imagery showed clusters of thunderstorm associated with a trough from Tropical Storm Cristobal stationary over the area.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times and are capable of causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lighting, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. LOCALIZED FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditionsn worsen. Residents should not seek shelter or under trees or in water as these can become lightening conductors.
