Jackson Burnside To Address 2009 Visionary Business Leaders & Entrepreneur Awards Conference

Nassau, Bahamas - Noted architect and artist, Jackson Burnside, President of Jackson Burnside Limited and Doongalik Studios, who has over 30 years of architectural experience under his belt in which he has led and directed major architectural and construction projects both internationally and locally will be a featured speaker at The 2009 Visionary Business Leaders and Entrepreneur Awards Conference, next Wednesday, December 2 at The Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort on Cable Beach. Burnside will address the conference on the topic, ?The Realities of Operating a Business During a Recession.?

The 2009 Visionary Business Leaders & Entrepreneur Awards Conference being organized by Visionaire Marketing and sponsored by The Bahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Fund, with support from The Ministry of Finance is geared to assist business owners, entrepreneurs and managers by providing them with practical advice, information and tips to weather the recession and begin preparing for the economic recovery.

Burnside expressed delight to be a presenter at the 2009 Visionary Business Leaders & Entrepreneur Awards Conference which he believes is very timely, considering the many challenges facing local businesses and companies.

As president of Jackson Burnside Limited and Doongalik Studios, Jackson Burnside studied and practiced abroad as an Artist and Architect for many years, and is a sought after lecturer who often tells his Project Teams and Design Students to examine their own heritage for its ?Common Sense.?

Burnside was educated at Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Arts where he studied in the Design Studio of Louis I. Kahn.

He began his career in the office of Louis I. Kahn, and with Arup Associates, a division of the world-acclaimed Ove Arup Partnership, on institutional and industrial projects. He later became the first Bahamian Senior Architect for the Bahamas Ministry of Works before entering private practice.

He lectures extensively on Architecture, Art and Culture at various schools in The Bahamas and abroad. He served for four years as an External Examiner at the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology, Kingston, Jamaica. In March, 2008 he presented at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) International Symposium on ?Caribbean Modernist Architecture? at the University of Technology, Kingston Jamaica. In the Spring Semester of 2009, Burnside was a Visiting Professor at the University of Miami.

As an Artist, Mr. Burnside has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in The Bahamas and internationally. As a Cultural Advocate, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors.

Jackson Burnside is registered to practice Architecture, both in the Bahamas and in the United Kingdom. While practicing in London England, he was elected to the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1976 and registered with the Architects Registration Council of the United Kingdom. He is registered with the Professional Architects Board of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and is a Member of the Institute of Bahamian Architects.

He is Chairman Emeritus and a designer of the ?One Family? Junkanoo and Community Organization, was Co-Leader of the Saxons Superstars for many years, and now is host of the popular live interactive radio show ?Junkanoo Talks.?

He is married to Pamela Burnside, has two daughters, Ebony and Orchid, and is a member of St. Agnes Anglican Church.

The 2009 Visionary Business Leaders & Entrepreneur Awards Conference will also be addressed by Mr. Jerome Gomez, Fund Administrator of The Bahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Fund; Mr. Dionisio D?Aguilar, Immediate Past President of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, and President of Super Wash and Chairman of AML Holdings; Mr. Tennyson Wells, President of Sanctuary Investments Ltd.; Mrs. Stacia Williams, President of Total Image Management and Mr. Sandy Schaefer, President of Robin Hood. The Minister of State for Finance, The Honourable Zhivargo Laing will deliver the keynote address.
