Over 40 Bahamian Women to be awarded inaugural "Women of Excellence" Award

Celebrating Woman International (CWI ) a nonprofit organization, announced plans today to award 50 outstanding Bahamian women with an inaugural “Woman of Excellence” 2014 Award for their outstanding accomplishments professionally and within the community.

Founded in 2013, CWI aims to mobilize and inspire women across the globe, to honor, recognize and celebrate the contributions of women, leveraging their untapped leadership capabilities in order for them to thrive in the world so that they can lead productive lives.

CWI goal is to:

• Unite, connect, engage and inspire women to honor and celebrate themselves and other women worldwide

• Expand women’s global business and leadership opportunities

• Create a virtual “Celebrating Woman” worldwide center & hall of honor by 2020

• Provide a one- of – a – kind global education initiative focused on honoring differences

• Inspire a spirit of service and giving among women

“CWI thinks honoring women for their accomplishments’ and hard work is a wonderful way to thank and inspire other women within the community. These awards are intended to do that. The selected honorees have demonstrated an untiring zeal for service to the community and inspire us through their selfless commitment to improving the lives of others,” CWI, Corporate Secretary, Collin Smith said.

During the month of October, the “Woman of Excellence Awards” will be awarded to women, who have made significant contributions in the following categories: arts; business; finance & trade; religion; law; civics; media and sports in The Bahamas.

Noting that Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. Perry Christie has declared the entire month of October “Celebrating Woman International –Woman 2014”, Smith said as a result of the declaration additional events for the honorees and the general public are planned beginning October 1st with the last event happening on November 1st.

According to Smith, the events include; a gospel concert; a woman’s symposium- “Are we there yet”; a church service; a fun/run and walk; the “Woman of Excellence” awards luncheon; a one day woman’s festival and a Pink & Red Rose Ball where the famous T-Connection will perform. Smith said, part proceeds from all paid events will support the fight against women suffering from HIV/AIDs and Cancer in the Bahamas.”

During the month of August CWI will announce the names of all the honorees and give more details about the upcoming events.
