Team Bahamas Area (Freedom Farm) continued its impressive showing in the Caribbean Little League Regional Baseball Tournament, as the team slammed the nine-time champion, Curacao, in the feature game on Sunday night.
The Farmers won easily, 11-3, giving the Bahamians a 2-0 win/loss record in the tournament, and putting them a step closer to the gold medal and a trip to the 2014 Little League World Series, set for August 14-24, in Williamsport, Pa. Curacao is also a former Little League World Series team, but Team Bahamas Area (Freedom Farm) had no problem dismantling them on Sunday night at the Emera Baseball Park in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Daalen Adderley got the start and pitched four innings for the win. Ethan Bain pitched the fifth for Team Bahamas Area and Kiethron Moss closed the door on Curacao in the sixth inning.
At the plate, Moss delivered as he went 2-for-4, capped off with a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning. He finished with five RBIs in total.
The other Bahamian team in the tournament, Team Bahamas Host (Grand Bahama) suffered a tough 13-10 loss to Bonaire. A player from Bonaire hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the win for them.
On Saturday, Team Bahamas Area (Freedom Farm) dominated the Dominican Republic, winning via the mercy rule in four innings, 34-0; Team Bahamas Host (Grand Bahama) fell to the defending champion, Puerto Rico, in five innings, 10-0.
Team Bahamas Host (Grand Bahama) took on the U.S. Virgin Islands in the feature game last night, but the final result was unavailable up to press time.
Team Bahamas Area (Freedom Farm) will take on Aruba, in its final preliminary game, at 6:30 p.m. this evening at the park.
The tournament runs through July 27 in Freeport. The Bahamas is being led by its area team (Freedom Farm-FF) and the host team (Grand Bahama-GB).
The first place finisher from this tournament will represent the Caribbean at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., from August 14-24.
