Retiring Dame Joan leaving behind legacy

When Dame Joan Sawyer retires as president of the Court of Appeal today, she will leave behind a legacy that will be hard to surpass - bringing about the first sitting of Britain's Privy Council outside that country in 400 years and computerizing every case ever brought before the court are among the more notable examples - but in an exclusive interview with The Nassau Guardian earlier this week, Dame Joan said her only regret is that she was not able to do more.
Dame Joan, who will turn 70 on Friday, had never granted a sit-down interview, at least not one that anyone at the court can recall.
