A 22-year-old man accused of attempting to rape a teenager after gaining entry to her home was convicted yesterday.
A nine-member jury unanimously found Kendrick McKenzie, who also uses the surname Bethel, guilty of assault with intent to rape.
Justice Vera Watkins will sentence McKenzie on July 15.
According to the victim, she stayed home from school on November 8, 2011 because she had a doctor's appointment.
The woman, now 19, said she was half asleep when she heard the bedroom door open and she heard someone whispering her name.
The woman said she was shocked to see the defendant, whom she knew because he had a relationship with her cousin who lived across the street.
The woman said she asked McKenzie, whom she knew as Marley, how he got inside.
She said he threw her onto the bed, tore off her panties and rubbed his privates against her thigh.
The woman said she fought him off, kicking him in the groin and stomach as she called out to her uncle for help.
She said McKenzie fled, running past her uncle as he came out of the bathroom.
McKenzie denied that he was known as Marley. He also denied dating the woman's cousin or knowing her.
Aaron Johnson prosecuted. Dorsey McPhee appeared for McKenzie.
