Fidelity Bank made sizable donations of non-perishable food items to Trinity Methodist Church’s Soup Kitchen and Great Commission Ministries International to render assistance in their community outreach initiatives.

“After a successful year for Fidelity Bank, we are pleased to continue giving back to the community in this way,” said Mr. Gregory Bethel, President of Fidelity Bank. “Many times we don’t appreciate that many Bahamians are without the basic needs from day to day. With these donations we are pleased to assist with the most important need – food.”

Trinity’s Soup Kitchen serves hot lunches to 120-150 persons in need every Tuesday. Additionally, they keep a register of persons who at Christmas time receive gifts (for the children) and bags of toiletries (for the adults). Also, a ‘Back-to-School’ event is held every August, when they treat parents and children to lunch, and distribute backpacks and grocery packages. Grocery packages and clothing are also distributed as supplies are available.

“We’re here to help our community as much as we can,” said Mrs. Lauren Higgs, Administrator of Trinity’s Soup Kitchen. “This donation will go a long way in helping others.”

Great Commission Ministries International is a non-profit organization that assists persons who are poor, needy and homeless. Their services include homeless shelters, feeding centres, drug rehabilitation programmes, homework and reading centres and more.

“On behalf of Bishop Hanchell and our board of directors, we are very grateful for this boost in our food bank,” said Mrs. Minalee Hanchell, Executive Director of Great Commission Ministries International. “We commend Fidelity Bank for their concern for the less fortunate in our nation. This donation has come at just the right time because of the increasing need of our people.”

Both organizations encouraged individuals to donate to the less fortunate.
