The Quality Beach Soccer (QBS) Club traveled to Virginia Beach over the holiday weekend to take part in the North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The NASSC is the world's largest amateur beach soccer festival, and The Bahamas was well represented. In two games, they went up against Rave, a team from Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Team Canada.
The game against Rave was extremely close throughout, but in the end, Rave managed to score a goal to give them a 4-3 victory over QBS. Goal scorers for QBS were Gavin Christie, Lesley St. Fleur and club president Ehren Hanna.
Just a few hours later, QBS faced off against Team Canada. Fatigue certainly played a factor early as Team Canada jumped on QBS, 3-0, just before the start of the final period. In that final stretch, QBS managed to put together a frantic rally. They scored four goals in five minutes and the match ended in a 4-4 draw.
Goal scorers in that match for QBS were Hanna, St. Fleur and Cameron Hepple. St. Fleur scored two goals for QBS in that match.
During the time in Virginia Beach, QBS also hosted a youth sand soccer clinic. The instructors of the clinic were professional players St. Fleur, Christie and Dwayne Forbes.
The Bahamas men's national beach soccer team is ranked number one in the Caribbean, and number six in the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) region. The club's representatives believe that this event this past weekend will not only provide necessary exposure for the team, but also, the competition they need to develop their skills and show the international community what Bahamians can do on the beach soccer pitch.
Quality Beach Soccer and all of its members would like to send out a big thank-you to all of their amazing sponsors who have helped the club to achieve many goals this past year, both at home and internationally.
"The generosity of our many sponsors has allowed us to continue to reach new levels of play, host tournaments, hold beach soccer clinics for youth in the community, as well as represent The Bahamas in international tournaments - all of which could not have been achieved without the help of our sponsors," said club president Hanna in a press release. "Quality Beach Soccer could not prosper as it has without the generous support of the Bahamian community, parents and sponsors who have helped to support us along the way."
The club is sponsored by: the Bahamas Football Association (BFA), the Cable Cares Foundation Bahamas, Grant Thornton, Bahamas Local, Delucci, Sapphire Venture Fund, Physicians Alliance, 5ive Star Snorkeling, Davis & Co., Ehren's Grooming Center, Mogul-by Ehren's Grooming Center, Bahamas HomeAway, Stale-O-Force Pictures, Jams Printing, Phil's Food Service, and other private sponsors.
