Hepburn, Hoyte win Tournament of The Americas trials

It was Alcondo Hepburn and Janice Hoyte who held on to claim the overall titles after 24 games during the Tournament of The Americas Team Trials at Mario's Bowling and Family Entertainment Palace.
The tournament wrapped up Sunday, and Hepburn and Hoyte led throughout. The duo will now lead Team Bahamas into the Tournament of The Americas Bowling Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Going into the fourth and final block of bowling on Sunday, Hepburn held a comfortable 81-pin lead over second place finisher, Lee Davis. He still had to finish strong to secure the title. Over the four-night tournament, Hepburn finished with a total pinfall of 4,536 pins, averaging 189. Davis finished with a total pinfall of 4,412, averaging 183.83. Sonith Lockhart was third overall with 4,361 pins, averaging 181.71.
"It feels good to win and bowl well," said Hepburn. "To come out on top against some of the top bowlers in the sport is a good accomplishment. I'm just glad that I was able to come through and will have an opportunity to represent the federation and my country. This will be my first international experience in competition, and I'm looking forward to it."
Overall, six men and six women will represent The Bahamas at the Tournament of The Americas Bowling Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida - two in each division. The divisions that will be contested are: Adult men (under 50) - two men; adult women (under 45) - two women; senior men (50-plus but under 60) - two men; senior women (45-plus but under 55) - two women; super senior men (60-plus) - two men; and super senior women (55-plus) - two women.
The Tournament of The Americas, which will start at the end of July and run into the first week of August, will feature some of the best bowlers in the Americas.
On the women's side of the trials, Hoyte finished with a total pinfall of 4,104 pins, averaging 171 over 24 games. Jonice Lockhart was second, finishing with a total pinfall of 4,081, averaging 170.04; current national champion, Xynea Johnson, had to settle for third, with a total pinfall of 3,868 pins, averaging 161.17.
The Bahamas Bowling Federation (BBF) wishes to thank all of the bowlers who took part in the trials, and congratulate the 12 members who will represent The Bahamas at the Tournament of The Americas.
On the men's side at the trials, Johann Pyfrom, Greg Taylor, Stan Bethell, Mario "Hawk" Brown, BBF President Yule Hoyte, Edmund Deal and Ken Brathwaite rounded out the top 10, and on the women's side, Camille Burnside, Angela Smith, Tara Johnson, Michelle Outten and Tara Culmer completed the top eight.
