In Sharlene Thompson's Grade Two class at Kingsway Academy even math comes with a song and dance. Thompson shimmies up and down the rows of desks singing "The numerator goes on the..." to the tune of "Dry Bones."
A classroom-full of seven-year-olds sing "Top, top," in a singing response to their teacher's call. The children bang their hands on their desks, their smiles and eyes grow wide, and the components of the dreaded fraction become the lyrics of the day's hit song.
Minutes later, reading is just as interactive. A story about a bicycle-riding grandpa becomes a performance, and an eager student plays the main character supported by Thomps ...
