FREEPORT, Grand Bahama --- Students from schools throughout Grand Bahama held special assemblies on Thursday morning, January 10, to commemorate Majority Rule Day in The Bahamas. Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, joined in the special assembly at St. George's High School telling students that outside of Independence, there is no greater event in Bahamian history.

Nassau, Bahamas - A group of fifteen students and a student advisor from the University of Maryland are in The Bahamas as part of the university's Alternative Winter Break program.  While in The Bahamas, the students will take a hands-on approach that will focus on maintaining and constructing infrastructure conducive to conservation of the ecosystems and landscapes of the islands. They will also partner with local organizations to encourage visitors and residents alike to be more cognizant about environment conservation.

Nassau, Bahamas - Thirteen boys at the Elizabeth Estate Children's Home are that much more refined after completing a popular, public speaking programme hosted by Toastmasters Club 1600.

"Toastmasters showed us how young men should speak and socialize with each other," said one 14-year-old who participated in the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) which culminated in a graduation exercise last month.

Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a press statement by College of The Bahamas (COB):On Wednesday, January 9th, 2013, some non-faculty staff did not report for duty, indicating that they were ill. Today, some employees remain on sick leave. College policy allows each member of staff to take two
consecutive sick days without being required to produce a valid
certificate from a physician.

For Keia Armbrister, one of the student speakers that evening, support from the Foundations has enabled her to travel the world while earning her bachelor's degree in engineering and naval architecture at SUNY Maritime College in Throggs Neck, New York.
