Kicks for a Cure Beach Soccer Tournament
@ The Football Association’s new Beach Soccer Facility on East Bay Street.
3 Years ago, the Bears Football Club held a beach soccer tournament for one of its members that had been
diagnosed with cancer.
We were able to raise $38,000 with the assistance of corporate sponsors such as you. This
year the tournament will be under the auspices of the Bahamas Football Association and all proceeds will be given
to the Cancer Society of the Bahamas and youth development in soccer.

Sophia Taylor, will open her
Art Exhibition, BEAULAH
LAND at Doongalik on Tuesday,
June 19.
The exhibition
will be on display until Tuesday
July 17 and will consist of
photographs and paintings by
the talented artist.
Sophia Taylor is a young aspiring
photographer. Born August
25th 1994, Sophia enjoys
the privilege of having dual citizenship. The
breathtaking beauty of The Bahamas and Costa Rica
has inevitably influenced Sophia’s work. She is proud
of her roots as they have provided the ideal framework
to explore the amazing world of nature photography,
a skill that Sophia has mastered.

In 2010, at the young age of 15, Sophia published a photography
book called ‘Beaulah Land’ in which she expresses
her love for the Bahamas by exploring the themes:
beauty, ethnicity, unity, liberty, abundance and harmony.
In 2010 Sophia was awarded an honorable
mention in the Central Bank’s annual art exhibition.
She also received honourable mention at the USA
“Best of High School and College Photography” event.
Her most recent work has focused on photographing
models in sessions that usually highlight a specific
theme.
She continues to dazzle people with her creative
photography skills and expert editing techniques.
At the surprising age of 17, this young woman has
gained incredible respect from a wide range of photographers.
She is a member of the
Photographers of The Bahamas, Sophia is a 2012 graduate of Lyford Cay International
School, where she was an Honour Roll student, a member of the victorious
Dragons soccer team, the National under 17 girls soccer team, and the school band.
She is a Swim America coach,
plays the steel drums and the clarinet and is a Bahamas Humane Society volunteer.
Sophia is on her way to Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica to begin her studies in Photography,
and is later transferring to SCAD.
Sophia is the daughter of Francis and Rose Marie Taylor, has 3 siblings: Franz, Felicia and twin sister Marissa.

Westward Villas Neighbourhood Association's
Annual Fun Run/Walk
Saturday July 7, 7am to 9am
All residents and neighbouring communities (Grove West, Skyline, Westridge North, South Westridge, Sea Beach & Tropical Gardens) are welcomed to walk with us!
Volunteers are needed to assist with refreshments during the event. Anyone willing to assist at the Fun Run/Walk, should immediately email us and let us know (westwardvillas@gmail.com).
All the reports about crime have made residents feel uneasy about taking their usual jogs or walks. In response, Westward Villas Association has arranged a Neighbourhood Fun Run/Walk.
The Intention:
1. To encourage residents to re-establish normal exercise routines,
2. Meet the Community Policing Officers, and to
3. Get re-acquainted with each other.
In Attendance:
· Representatives from the Cable Beach Community Policing Division
· Dr. Minnis & the Killarney Association, and
· Neighbourhood Crime Watch Volunteers.
The Route:
Begins from the Scotiabank parking lot, heading east along the new Cable Beach roadway to Goodmans Bay and then back to Scotiabank. The fun run/walk is open to all. No special registration, T-shirts or neighbourhood affiliation is required cause… “All ah we is one family”.
The Days:
For your convenience, the fun/run walk is slated to take place on two successive days at different times;
· Saturday morning (7 July, 2012) starting at 7 am – 9 am, and
· Sunday afternoon (8 July, 2012) starting at 5 pm – 7 pm
Thanks to the Neighbourhood Patrollers (from Westward Villas and Grove West) who have consented to jointly oversee the event.

Special Summer Concert

The Nassau Music Society is hosting a special Summer Concert under the patronage of His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General, and in association with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China Featuring the Xi'an Conservatory of Music Quartet on Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at 7:30pm at St Andrew's Kirk on Shirley St. (Princess St.).
The Xi’an Conservatory of Music Quartet was established in 2009 and has premiered a number of modern musical works. They have successfully held several chamber music recitals and were praised as "artists with rare and touching connotation of the music".
The Quartet members are Tian Hui on 1st violin, Zhang Zhiying on 2nd violin, Wang Keju on the viola, and Sun Peng on the cello. Combined, they have rich chamber music and solo experience, and are frequent winners of domestic and international competition awards. The repertoire of this string quartet is from baroque to contemporary music; their playing style being accurate and interesting, especially skilled in playing the modern and contemporary music works.
