Camp Millionaire is an innovative activity-based financial literacy program for kids and teens. This day camp will teach your kids how to make, manage and multiply their money. Braiding lanyards, playing softball, swimming in the lake? That’s child’s play compared with a new camp that teaches kids about fiscal responsibility. The New York Times reports a company called Financially Free is helping kids become more money savvy in a course called “Camp Millionaire.”
The five-day camp in Allentown, Pa. teaches kids basics like the importance of having more money coming in than going out, how to allocate money for expenses like college and savings, and help dispel myths about the rich and poor, all with the aim of showing kids how sound and responsible financial planning can help them become millionaires.
Other programs aimed at kids have also sprung up. Warren Buffett is planning a new Web cartoon called “Secret Millionaires Club” that teaches kids the fundamentals of good investing like identifying a product that people actually want to buy.
Sounds simple, right? One can’t help but wonder if more adults were familiar with these basics, the financial crisis might have been averted.

Bahamas Humane Society Summer Camp 2012

Week 2 Jul 2nd - July 6th

9.00am – 12.00pm

Children learn the basics of animal care and humane treatment. They read educational books and watch educational DVD’s and do some fun worksheets. They interact with the Bahamas Humane Society adoption animals and have question and answer sessions with the Humane Society staff.

Limited space so register early! Fees are payable in advance.

*Children should bring a snack and drink*
A dog leash and old towel would be helpful.

The dogs appreciate the kids bringing them dog bones, and the donkeys, goats and horses love treats of vegetables, fruits and bread.

of her roots as they have provided the ideal framework
to explore the amazing world of nature photography,
a skill that Sophia has mastered.

In 2010, at the young age of 15, Sophia published a photography
book called ‘Beaulah Land’ in which she expresses
her love for the Bahamas by exploring the themes:

mention in the Central Bank’s annual art exhibition.

She also received honourable mention at the USA
“Best of High School and College Photography” event.
Her most recent work has focused on photographing
models in sessions that usually highlight a specific
theme.

She continues to dazzle people with her creative
photography skills and expert editing techniques.
At the surprising age of 17, this young woman has
gained incredible respect from a wide range of photographers.
She is a member of the
Photographers of The Bahamas, Sophia is a 2012 graduate of Lyford Cay International
School, where she was an Honour Roll student, a member of the victorious
Dragons soccer team, the National under 17 girls soccer team, and the school band.
She is a Swim America coach,
plays the steel drums and the clarinet and is a Bahamas Humane Society volunteer.

Sophia is on her way to Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica to begin her studies in Photography,
and is later transferring to SCAD.
Sophia is the daughter of Francis and Rose Marie Taylor, has 3 siblings: Franz, Felicia and twin sister Marissa.

Art for Arts' Sake! is a benefit concert at Crazy Johnny's on East Bay Street to raise funds for the fourth annual Bahamas Writers Summer Institute, a Caribbean centered creative writing program for Bahamians. Performing will be Helen Klonaris on vocals, John Nutt and Jose Viana on guitars, Adrian D'Aguilar on bass, and Kevin Dean on drums.

They'll be joined on stage by Johnny Christie who will be opening the evening with a solo performance. Throughout the evening guest poets will appear and make themselves heard! Please come out and support Art for Arts' Sake!

Tickets are $15 at the door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds!
