Gala Performance of The Dance Theatre of Harlem Saturday afternoon matinee
Friday, June 22, 2012 | 7:30pm
Atlantis Theatre, Paradise Island

The Nassau Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, in partnership with its major sponsors, Atlantis and The U.S. Embassy, will present the Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) to The Bahamas from June 18-24, 2012. The highlight of the group’s visit will be a Gala Performance on Friday, June 22nd and a matinee performance on Saturday, June 23rd, at the Atlantis Theatre, Paradise Island. The world renowned dance troupe is led by Keith Alan Saunders, Ensemble Director and Virginia Johnson, Artistic Director.

According to Mrs. Diane Pindling, President of the Nassau Chapter of The Links, the purpose of DTH’s visit is to expose the Bahamian dance community to the social and artistic legacy of DTH through performances and educational experiences.

“We are very pleased that Bahamians, especially our young people, will have the opportunity to interact with a group of this magnitude, and to benefit from the greatness that DTH has cultivated over the past 43 years. With the assistance of the Ministries of Education and Youth, Sports & Culture and the U.S. Embassy, we have extended invitations to all of our primary and high schools throughout The Bahamas, private and community dance groups, and churches with dance programmes”, said Pindling.

The workshops and master classes will be held June 19 through the 21st, at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium with the Black-tie Gala performance scheduled for the evening of Friday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. VIP tickets are priced at $200 and will include the After Reception with the Dance Troupe. The Dance Theatre of Harlem will also offer a Saturday afternoon matinee on June 24 at 3:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $40 and student/children tickets are $20.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem is a groundbreaking African-American ballet company founded 35 years ago by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook. The Dance Theatre of Harlem School offers training to more than 1,000 young people annually with a community program open to any child who wants to study dance. One of the core missions of the ballet company is fostering the development of African-American and other racially diverse artists who perform a demanding repertory in front of audiences in the United States and around the world.

Celebrating 50 Years Of The Suffrage Movement

Pelican Bay Resort $50.00
Part Proceeds To The Red Rose Ball Committee

This year the world celebrates 50 years of the Suffrage Movement which campaigns for the rights of all women as it relates to work, finances, social equality and equal rights in general. Cia Monet, the online shopping experience embraces this opportunity through its brand to bring an awareness of the Suffrage Movement to women of The Bahamas. They have dedicated their 2012 Marketing Campaign to honouring and commemorating some of the Great Bahamian Women with a 4 part Series called Beauties @ Brunch which celebrates Fashion, Sophistication, Professionalism and Poise, by coupling Epic Beauty and Fashion with Premium Venues, Food and Wine.

"We are please to support The Red Rose Ball Committee who do so much to bring HIV/AIDS Awareness in Grand Bahama," said Patricia Chiatti of Cia Monet. "We will also be honouring Mrs. Geneva E. Rutherford, educator and community builder of Grand Bahama, who has contributed countless hours to help others."

"It is with great humility that the Red Rose Ball Committee has been chosen as the charitable recipients of this event," said Odette Knowles of the Red Rose Ball Committee in Grand Bahama. "Over the years strong Bahamian women have been in the forefront of all aspects of life – in the home, education, business, government and healthcare. This will go a long way in assisting our committee in spreading our message. The world AIDS theme, 'Take the Lead, Keep the Promise – STOP AIDS' is a theme that the women of The Bahamas have embraced in the fight against this deadly disease that can affect the entire Bahamian household. This contribution should open the doorway for support for many others to donate to the cause of the Red Rose Ball Committee. We encourage the local community to come out and support this event."

The fashion event promises to be one of the top events of the year featuring a red carpet, so participants should dress to impress. There will also be live auctions from local artisans as well as the Cia Monet Boutique with funds going directly to the charity. Enjoy a sumptuous meal as the fashion show takes the spotlight. "Not only will you enjoy a display of the hottest couture, but we hope to have our audience take from the event, a new perspective to serve as mentors, and female role models who emanate self worth, self fulfillment, independence, and self sufficiency," said Chatti.
